2 Diamonds together

I already have 1 x female Diamond, Is it OK to put another (larger) female in the same cage with her.
Thanks Tourett

RE: 2 Diamonds together

Depends on the size difference. If they are both large adults i wouldnt risk it, only due to the difficulty of seperating for feeding. When 2 diamonds in the same cage are hungry you may have a hard time seperating them. If one is considerably smaller it may get stressed by a larger one sitting on top of it ( depending on the size of the cage). You will need several hiding boxes. If you seperate a smaller one for feeding and then re introduce it to the larger one, you will have to keep a close eye on them and make sure theres no accidental cannibalism.

I find that problem with housing Diamonds together is usually only when you feed them. I am taking one of them out from enclosure first.

they should be all right together as long as you seperate them at feeding time

Get a couple of cliplock boxes to transfer them to when you feed them.

I keep a 6ft 3.5kg diamond and a 5.5ft 1.8kg diamond together in an avairy. I put the smaller one in a bucket and feed time and feed the larger one in the cage.

cheers

Jonny

I do recommend at least 8 months quarantine. One year is best option.

8 month to a 1 year sounds a little excessive Slateman. I was expecting maybe a 2 weeks to 2 months type of reply. Sure you're not having a lend of me?

I guess quaranting depends on where you got the diamond from. If it was from a well respected herper who exercised hygiene in his own collection then the animal is probably clean and healthy. 2 months will most likely suffice, but theres no harm in going 1 year. The time will fly by.

OK. Thanks Guys, lucky I had that extra enclose setup. Just for interest sake. What sort of diseases will take upto a year show themselves?

The diseases that take up to a year to show themselves are usually cryptosporidiosis, Inclusion body disease(IBD) and gastroenteritis. But its highly unlikely that your snake would have any of these.
