3 Wild Carpets!!!

Last nite I was told about 3 or 4 wild carpet pythons which have been seen basking, fighting and mating in the bat colony near my house. We went down to where the lady said and there they were... all 3 of them. I got a few pics but had to make a mad dash to the shop when the battery went flat which happened to be the most inopportune moment... they were mating!!!

They appeared reasonably healthy except one was missing a couple of cms off the end of his tail and the really large one had his mouth slightly open and looked rather swollen around the jaw.

They let me get really close to them and did not seem to be bothered by my presence. I am going to go back on Sat with 2 sets of fully charged batteries!!!!

Enjoy!!!

That's great. Are they far enough out of the way so people won't hassle them?

I'd love to see multiple wild snakes like that. There's a picture in one of the books (Richard Shine I think) of a whole colony of dimaonds in one tree - like 10 of them!

Nah, too many people relocate snakes these days, they're probably mongrels!!!

Good stuff AG. Great to see so many in the one place. I am still waiting to see my first "alive" python in the wild. One day it will happen. In the meantime I will have to be envious of you and just enjoy your piccies.
Thanks

That damn cat!!!

Well we estimated that the big one was about 8' or so and the other 2 about 6 or 7.

Apparently they are there every day at 10am and they come out to bask and 'play'. It is on the egde of this big bat colony which is situated on a main road which worries me a little but I think you have to know what you are looking for to find them.

The last pic showed the swollen jaw nicely. I was wondering if the snake was caught could it be treated??? Wouldnt want to disturb them too much.

I was told about them by a bat carer who was obviously distressed about the thought of a big carpet eating a bat... all I say is go the snakeys!!!!
