5m Python eats pet Chihuahua

This news item on ninemsn today

"A distraught north Queensland family threw chairs at a 5m python in a fruitless attempt to stop it devouring their pet chihuahua.

The snake stalked the silky terrier-cross late Monday night, eventually settling down to consume the dog on the veranda of Daniel Peric's Kuranda home as his two horrified children watched, The Cairns Post reported.

When snake experts arrived to remove the non-venomous reptile, all that could be seen of the dog was its tail and back legs."

a free feed is a good feed.

kinda traumatic for the kids tho...

should get all rednecked and biblical on it, and eat the snake as payback

What a way to go.

Poor kids having to watch their dog being eaten.

My staffy wouldnt fit in that snake, shes built like a tank lol

ETA: Just read that link, and apparently their guinea pig and a cat had already been eaten by hungry snakes, so you would think they would keep the dog inside.
Now the guy is worried the snake is coming for his kids, (he has ducted aircon).

Would a hungry python go for people? (small kids I mean)

Might be a silly question, but Im not familiar with pythons of that size.

Yeah poor kids

But it's not a dog if you can kick it over a fence.

A scrubby could take a small kid but I can't see a human giving off the right smell to trigger a feeding response. Unless they smell like a furry animal. But I'd be a bit worried to start with if my kids(when I have them) smell like a furry animals. They'd be sleeping outside.
