I'm no expert but I pretty sure that at a minimum 25% of the hachlings should be albino, as you've said depending on their genotype possible more than 25%. I'm also pretty sure that the hachlings will be at great risk at being deformed mostly around the eyes. I Think.
Tourett

PS have just read Albino python web site, They did have eye problems but related that to heat spikes during incubation.
I have definatley read from another source that albino and eye problems are related.

if they are homozygous albinos ie. Both parents are white then all offspring will be white(albino)

If they are both hetrozygous albinos ie both parents are normal colour but carry the albino gene then statistically 25% will be normal, 50% hets like the parents and 25% albino.

If you breed a hetro with an albino you should get 50/50 albino/hets

cheers

Wrong... an albino animal has pure albino genes, (genotype aa for instance). 100% albino hatchlings.

Correct

Think about it.

If two white people breed and have children what colour do you expect those children to be?

Someone here should do a little punnet square article hehe... 'Genetics 101'. Easy enough to teach/learn in a page, and it looks like it'd be appreciated... I'd do it, but no scanner here, and I like drawing

That's a fairly simplistic way of putting it. Two black mice (or members of other species) can be crossed to produce albinoes, along with a zillion other examples of recessive allelic examples, but with albinoes, yes that's the way it is.

Tourett, two albinos which breed together will have all albino babies, and also, albinism doesn't seem to have any affect on the eyes of the olive pythons. Eye defects are common in pythons incubated too warm (I've hatched eyeless snakes before too, but have never owned an albino). Albinism causes eye problems in some cases (including humans) often albinos are cross eyed, have vision problems or blindness, but this isn't always the case and the olives appear to be fine (other than appearing horrible due to an horrific mutation).

A quick and dirty chart showing single recessive gene inherentance. a Heterozygous animal is one that carries a single recessive gene that is masked, i.e it looks like a normal animal
( hope I got it right )

Yeah you kind of had the right idea tourett, but missed that both parents were albino? No way anything other than 100% albino hatchies would come from that cross.

Fuscus,
you've made an error on the last punnett square, a heterozygous bred with a albino will only produce 50% albinos and 50% hets, not 75% / 25%
