another aussie pythons woma breeds under 2 years of age

Hi all shane here. Please forgive my absence from the forum over the last couple of mounths.Anyway for those that either already own or for those that have aussiepythons line of tennant creek womas on order for this season. We have some more interesting breeding results. This season we have had our sixth one of our line to breed under 2 years of age.an 18 mounth old female laid a clutch of 7 big beutifull firtile eggs on31.7.06.so this is goodnews for those that are currently raiseing last seasons offspring.and this female laid the smallest clutch out of the six that have all bred under 2 years of age.the other 5 all laid clutches of 9 eggs.a photo will follow regards SHANE

Not bad there mate. Would she have laid a bigger clutch if she had not mated until she was older though? Not being rude but just asking a question as i am about to get into breeding myself

woma

Congratulations on the successful clutch. IMO i don't think Shane is over-feeding as the animal looks healthy (not that I'm an expert) and if the snake gets enough exercise and is fed small animals that have a lower fat content it should be robust and strong, as opposed to fat and sluggish. I'm as keen as RevDan to know if older snakes produce a larger clutch of eggs. It certainly seems that way, judging from reports of clutch size and observing posts/topics. Can more experienced breeders shed some light on this?

RE: woma

That is an outstanding looking animal mate, absolutely beautiful. Well done!!

Shane you must have missed the memo that said growing snakes quick is a no no . Would you be willing to share the feeding schedule you had for this animal for the first 18 months of its life? If its a lot of food then you can PM me if you want to prevent being blasted.

RE: woma

RevDaniel, most snakes seem to have small clutches on their first successful breeding and then lay more as they mature. Nice Woma there shane.

RE: woma

Shane's animals are all extremely healthy and i am yet to meet a keeper who is as hygienic and cares about the health of his snakes more than Shane. As Shane stated in his post, that this is the sixth out of his line to lay eggs however i know that these animals are ones that Shane sold- not ones that he has held back for himself. I hope this thread isn't going to turn into another argument about feeding regimes and stays focused on the beauty of the snake pictured and the little bubs that will be on their way. Keep us updated Shane.

Simone.

RE: woma

My intention is not to make this into an argument, however this snake serves as an example of raising snakes quickly with no known ill effects. That animal was clearly fed more than 8-12 meals a year and most likely was never cooled until it was to be bred.

I wasn't aware that shane never raised these animals himself, but the fact that he is obviously pleased with the results means that he has no objection to an animal being grown so quick, neither do I if its done properly.

I completely understand if shane or anyone else does not want to post feeding regimes to the public forum, they would most likely get blasted over it but the result is ovbious in the case of this animal, it has been grown quickly which can only be done with a lot of food. Stuff anyone who thinks their so high and mighty that they can have a go at someone for something that has just as much proof for it as there is against it.

actuly the animal in question was not power fed and it was not cooled but it was raised with its brother. And i did breed this one my self.Butit certainly had more than 8 to 12 meels for the year.To me they are wild feeding regimes.I myself stopped that feeding rate 20 years ago I beleave captive bred and raised pythons need more in a captive enviroment because to maintain them well they are kept at more of higher overall graidiant then they would exspearence in the wild anywayyes istopped feeding like that 20 years agofunny enough around the same time i started to realy breed. But what would I know just a thougt. regards SHANE from aussiepythons

People need to be aware that both Woma and BHP's are chucky from the start and growth with these two species are rapid, and goesnt tke long at all to get to productive stage..
