If it was me, I would plan to spend a bit of time around Carins, Mossman the Daintree / Cape Tribulation. You won't want to leave, trust me!

You might be able to in contact with the herp clubs of the areas you visit who would probably be able to give some ideas. I don't know the contact details but can probably find out, or those members of Sydney clubs may reply and help you out.
When you get to Northern Territory if you stop in Katherine - thats where my beautiful olive pythons came from. Tennent Creek is popular with the stimsons pythons. And of course watch out for the crocodiles

Start off at Crocodyllus Cove, Darwin and talk to Gavin Bedford who runs it for a crash course in Northern Territory Reptiles.

Australia isn't like Eurpoe. You have to understand that sydney to melbourne is about 9 hours to drive, Sydney to Queensland is about 10 hours. you can not go from one end of Australia to another in a few days.
The only reason why I bring this up is most europeans I know make their plans along these lines...
I arrive in Melbourne, I will drive to sydney visit it for a day, then drive up to queensland for a day or so then come back to melbourne. That's not possible!
Sydney -
Australian Reptile Park (1-2 hours from Sydney)
Taronga Zoo (30 mins via ferry from Circular Quay)
Sydney Wildlife World (the heart of the city)

TRUE TRUE TRUE ..........They really are unaware how BIG each of our states and territories are.....and get a bit confused when they come here, as plans that have been made prior can now no longer take place .As we found out on numerous occasions ,while travelling around OZ and bumping into over seas visitors with the same gripe........
