Australian snakes-a natural history Richard Shine

does anyone have this book? I have a question, on page 126 it shows the tails of male and female snakes. the writing beneath says the male is at the bottom with a thicker tail base[to accomodate hemipenes] but bottom pic shows thinner more tapered tail. is this a mistake? should it be male at the top?[shows thicker tail base. and female at bottom? if you have the book please help.

mate i am lookinh at the pic right now, there is very little difference in the 2 snakes, but if you look at the lower snake (male), after the vent there is a few single scales then they become divided. At the first divided scale after the singles the shape of the tail slightly bulges out then goes thinner again, whereas on the female (top), it tapers roughly evenly. As i said before, there is very little difference and would probably be unnoticeable if it wasnt pointed out in pic
hope that helps

Yes indeed but way out in Newport! Doubt if you could make it that far without a packed lunch and a map!
