Hey Swingontheswing,
nice snakes I also have a bredli hatchling female from bigguy. She is only 9 weeks old and I've had her for a week and a half. I have tried to feed her a few times but she does'nt seem to be interested just wondering if you had any problems with feeding Zenn when you first got him any advice will be great.

hi sam,

congrats on ur new baby and bigguy is an awesome breeder.... and its ok i had heaps of probs with getting zenn started.... dont fret he went 6mths or so without eating.... he is a little on the small side now but he was when i got him anyway..... just be persistant and patient.... if you've only had her for a couple of weeks i wouldnt worry too much.... leave her in a a quiet room and dont handle her.... i know its hard!!! lol.... then try again in a week.... its hard to get zenn riled up so i imagine it would be the same with yours..... try to gentley whack in him the face with it (sounds terrible i know).... if this doesnt work leave the pinke in there overnight (this is how zenn eventually took it just out of the blue after months of trying)...... also if u can try braining (again sounds horrible) get a pin and stick it through the mouses head so its a bit bloody so the scent gets to them (be careful though zenn isnt the smartest snake and if theres some blood leftover on himself he tries to bite it..... yes he'll bite himself lol)...... also u can try scenting it with a skink tail (or gecko if ur in qld) theres numerous methods such as just rubbing it on the mouse for a min or so or u can put it in the water that u defrost ur mouse with.....

I suggest u dont try and forcefeed (or assistfeed) unless u are taught how to do it with help from an experienced keeper cos its quite stressful for u and the snake and should only be used as a last resort...

Again i wouldn't worry too much and congrats on ur bredli they are by far my favourite and I keep 9 species..... you'll just keep falling in love i cant priase bredli's enough....

I hope this has helped Sam.... the guys on here are very helpful... search the threads for feeding probs to get some more info if u like.... dont hesitate to pm me if u need osme advice or whatever.... pics would be great too

Cheers

Hi Sam,
I have a male Bredli about 8 weeks old and my friend has a female a few days younger. When we first bought them home I left mine fairly quiet for a few days to settle in. My friend could not help but try and handle the female over the first few days which I think stressed it out. Mine fed as soon as I put an FM in front of it. Actually came out of his hide real quick and bang. He has fed twice(I feed him Sunday nights) no problem at all. After my friends female settled down it took a Weener mouse no problems either. It may just be a little stressed settling into it's new home. I'm not an expert but it seems Bredli's are generally good eaters so I wouldn't be to worried. All the best.

Just leave him alone for 1 or preferably 2 weeks. Then try dangling a pinkie/fuzzie in front of him using some tweezers. Somethimes our hands on the end of the food stresses them enough to not want to try and eat it. If he doesn't take it just try leaving it in there with him for a few hours. I wouldn't try banging him in the side of the head with the food item just yet as although it does work sometimes it has serious potential to stress the snake even more. If after leaving it in there for a while doesn't work you could try GENTLY tapping or touching the side of his mouth with the mouse while again holding it with tweezers. This will sometimes entice it to bite and often will coil it straight away.
The most important thing here is to leave him alone for a couple of weeks and only disturb him to check water etc. Also if you aren't already try feeding at night.

Bredli are generally pigs so I think you will find given the chance to settle in ti it's new surroundings it will feed pretty readily.

Good luck
