hi,
do most hatchies start out with a full black stripe down its back then disappear?
so would this female lose the black stripe and is it a good or not that good to have such a big stripe as i havent seen many with em.
an what age would you normally buy a hatchie at? like what age do breeders start to sell em?
thanks

IMO they are the ugly ducklings of the BHP world; i don't like them at all. I like them with straight, evenly spaced bands down the sides (particularly the 'pin stripes'), with no smudging or marks along the back.

im with MrB, not a fan of them at all. some hatchies come out like that but not all and as said alot of people consider them to be the ugly ones. they wont lose it but as they get older they will obviously be more black down their back. get one when it feeding and established

It really depends on the animals itself.
The animal you posted does have a dark smudge down the back but, you can still see the pattern of bands under the dark wash.
In my experience hatching them....this will sometimes go away....and sometimes not.
I'll give you an example.....
This female back was so dark when she hatched.... that you could hardly see a pattern.
A few weeks before...
She's not the cleanest but, she has cleaned up by 60%.
I have another male that is the same since hatching....very dark back
( but not a stripe)
and, I've had clean ones turn muddy.
You never really now with BHP's until they are over a year old.
On a side note.....this is what a SOLID black stripe looks like on BHP's.
And, here are some of the other flavors of BHP's in my collection.
With over 50 BHP's in my collection.....I think I'd be bored if they all looked the same.
There are so many types, colors, flavors, etc.....that it easily makes them one of the most "varied" snakes out there.
I love em ALL.
Cheers.
D.
