| | Friend of huey Subscriber | | | | Just a question regarding substates for Bhps, Ive had mine on newspaper but now they get under it, making it hard to see if they crap. Ive tried the pelleted newspaper but didnt like it cause it was full of dust and the odd foreign material(plastic and sharp stuff).
Is sand any good? I'm Interested to hear from someone who has had Bhps for a while and have they found whats best. Thanks |

I use both for bhp's and it works well. |

IMO the snake being able to get into the paper and hide is one of the best things about using newspaper. |

I wouldn't use tape if I was you. :S Imagine if it got stuck to your snake! *cringes*
I'm trying bark ontop of newspaper. Seems to be working well atm (and looks really good imo) however I haven't thought of WHERE exactly I'm going to put the stuff after I'm done with it..
I guess I could throw it out but I'm sure the environment would like me a little more if I put it to good use in my garden.

Dont just say dont use something tell us why i have been using b/c for years and have not had any problems at all so why the "Don't use news paper pellets"
maybe not for hatchies but sub-adult and older is fine i have only just changed to using hand towel for hatchies but did not have any trouble with hatchies.....
and as for sand yes its fine for bhp and womas and anything else that is desert orientated
there is a 2 page article on substrate in the reptile australia mag with the albino carpet on the front have a read if you do use sand i would recomend that you put a mat of some description in there to feed on

I have also found that it is to dry for bhp's and can cause problems with shedding, doesn't seen to affect carpets as much.
That's just my experience with it, I was using for a good 12 months, before I found any prob with it. |

| | Friend of huey Subscriber | | | | | Yes thats one thing i found with it (bc) it definatly dried out the enclosure somewhat.
Well thanks guys , i think i'll stick with newspaper, just put more in.If they feel good under it then thats ok with me. I might try sand later when they get a bit older. | | |
