BHP's- Who has found it necessary to Combat?

Who has found it necessary to combat there male BHP's to encourage them to breed?

I have spoken to people both here in the UK and in USA, but have found that there is a real mix.

What are your personal experiences with this species?

Cheers

Neil

Have heard of people putting in a shed skin off another male to provide encouragement without the big battle royale. We will be attempting to breed them ourselves in a couple months so all advice is welcome for us as well. Hope your successful Neil.

Ad,
I will also be combating mine too, as long as you watch them 100% of the time, there shouldn't be a problem.
I also know others that have bred without combating and do so year after year.

Anyway, good luck !
Neil

Niel, mine bred last season without combat.
My friends didnt, so we will put them all together and try that way, I figure it can only help and hopefully get both breeding. Otherwise I wouldnt have access to another male, but i am happy the animals didnt require it last season. fingers crossed!
Cheers

Ad,
Yours friends snake might need a different male, I have heard that some BHP males just aren't compatible with individual females and so he might get a result from your male, he might not.
There a strange species to work with for sure, a good challenge to!

yes indeed, that is why he is so keen to get mine in there! lol
Knowing they can breed will answer some questions for his this season.
There are no hard and fast rules and differing opinions, I think guys find a formula that works for them and stick to it, I think luck plays a great part.
If mine does breed this year, I will definitely rest her the next, this is another I have heard from a reliable, proven bhp breeder. He rests his every second year.

Ad,
I have heard the rest a year plan, but two people I know have bred every year, one 5 years in a row with little or no reduction in egg quantity or viability.
As you say, luck has a part to play, at least in finding animals that are compatible if nothing else.

If you have a very compatable pair, combat may not be needed. However, I always use 2 males when mating mine.

Two males introduced with a female always gets their attention and stirs on great mating responses. But keep a eye on the boys while they are wrestling. I have never had serious injuries with wrestling BHP's, but there is always a first time.

I also feel that the males wrestling stirs the female into starting her reproductive cycle and greatly increases your chances of successful breedings
