One third of the tub should be placed on the heat pad so that you have a gradient of temps (preferably 26 cool end, 32 warm end) from one side to the other. Heat should be supplied 24/7 for hatchies/juvies.
Edit: I see he's in an enclsure rather than a tub... what is the enclosure made out of and how big is it?

| | | | A blue one? what are the blue ones used for? im using a 150W infrared globe ill take everyones advice and keep it on all the time from now on thanks guys and buy having the globe runnning all the time is it goin to put up the power bill heaps? just curiously how much will it cost just so i know if the next power bill is goin to be huge or not couse my parents will flip if it is and i wanna kno roughly how much i might have to pay extra a week/month to keep them happy so im able to keep my bredli |

|  | Q Dog Subscriber | Join Date: Dec-06 Location: Redlands, SE Qld | | | | If you have it wired to a thermostat, it will turn off when the thermostat registers the set temp at that part of the enclosure. If it is just one enclosure you have, the power costs won't be effected dramatically.
When your infra red blows, you're best replacing it with a ceramic heat element they last longer.
