I know that with diamonds it's preferable to have either yellow markings or white markings, but not both on the same animal. So if you had, say a brick red Centralian, would you breed it with a brownish one, or wait till you could get another that was brick red? This is just the first example off the top of my head, please use for any species. I'm not really talking about animals from different locals (like NT and SA womas), just different colour shades.
Or am I just being pedantic? Lol  |

If your trying to achieve color then more colorful animals are better etc.

If I was to attempt to breed for colour, contrast etc..then I would hold out for the very best cleanest looking animals I could.
In the reptile world it seems to be one thing that sets apart breeders.
How often have you heard people talking about buying from an individual who has a good reputation for very crisp, clean, bold coloured snakes, I have alot, and it is this reputation that carries the breeder to the next level.
The breeder then dosen't really have to advertise their offspring, as word of mouth seems to work year are year.
I know loads of breeders, some good and some not so good, and in a world where there is choice, the breeders that have a reputation for Colour and quality end up with people on waiting lists for their stock, year after year.
Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that if you bred a normal looking snake to an alike that you won't be able to sell them or get a good reputation as a breeder, only that it has been proven that if you take a little time and source the best looking animals, people will generally want to buy them from you before the other blokes.
Good luck in your future breeding.

If you are looking to establish a particular colour then both parents would have to be as close to the cour you desire as possible. |
