Cages

Hey I went to the pet shop the other day to look at cages cause im wanting to get a snake soon.
A cage that was about 4ft by 2 was $880 including the red heating light and uv light.
Had glass sliding doors at front and was made of like some sort of plastic.

Does anyone have any cheaper ideas i was thinking of making my own ?
Help would be appreciatede

hi Marzzy, if you want to make your own enclosure, Just use 9mm ply or something similar that will hold a bit of heat in and you can buy glass and glass runner track for your sliding doors....
These vents look tidy, you will need one or 2 for ventulation.....( the small vent down the bottom right)http://www.jakehowlett.com/gallery/photos/vents.jpg You can get them at bunnings or where ever, and they have fly screen or something like that on the back so the snake cant get out.... Just remember you are trying to keep one end on the enclosure warm, and the other end cool, so put your vent/s on one side.
Bill.

Marzzy, you'd be mad not going for a Parkers Enclosure from Auzlizardking as he is very close to you. Top notch cabinet maker and an all round nice guy (pay me later Darryn)

Mine are from MDF with 3 coats of exterior grade paint. last one i built is about 2.4M x 1.2M x 0.6M split into 6 enclosures, hardware [ie hinges, handles], lighting, ventillation grills etc all up cost me under $500 and a weekend's work. Mind you Im no carpenter but I think they look pretty good : ) Made a smaller unit 1.2M x 1.2Mx0.6M for under $250. As long as you seal the materials they clean out ok.

Thumbs up Try Herp Shop

G'day Marzzy,
Don't forget to check out www.herpshop.com.au as i have found them to be very competitive on enclosure hardware such as lighting, heating etc.
I've used before and have found the service to be top shelf .
