Calling all Coastal owners! Size survey, please help :)

Seeing as trawling the interwebs doesn't seem to turn up any good records of coastal growth, and since we semi-regularly get owners of sub-adult coastals (like me!) asking what size their little babies should be at a particular age, and a forum search of "coastal" and "size" turns up five hundred threads about freaky-giganto-monster snakes, how's about we all work together?

If anyone *does* have a comprehensive record of their snake's growth over a few years that they're willing to share, that would be awesome, otherwise, please just answer the following short survey Ideally we want hatchies right through to grown-ups. If anyone who breeds would throw in some hatchie / yearling sizes as well as their grown-ups, that would be fantastic Once we've got enough I'll chuck them together into a table that any interested parties can check out. We're fixing a hole in the internet, people! Let's go!

Current Age:

Age they stopped growing, if adult:

Gender:

Snout to Vent Length:
and/or
Entire Length:

and if they'll co-operate...
Weight:

Thanks guys!

Keep in mind that most people massively exaggerate, and even most of those who genuinely do their best to get accurate measurements usually use extremely inaccurate methods such as using sloughs, those silly computer image programs or just sort of taking a guess.

In my old records I have some Carpet Python growth records from hatchlings to several years old. If I stumble across them I'll put them up.

Yeah but how old Gary? Mines approx 3 1/2 and just over 6 foot but was slightly underfed for a while. Also I will not overfeed as I'm concerned about the long term effects of doing so. Great idea Kathryn!

I've now collected all the results I can find in other threads and the for sale section, looks like there's just a tiny bit of variation. So far, the biggest we've got is an eight year old claimed to be 3.3m We've got yearlings between 60cm and 1.5m, two year olds between 90cm and 1.95m and over fives between 1.5m and the aforementioned 3.3m. This is certainly going to be an interesting table! 2.4m is a number that's cropping up a lot in the over threes.

I have 3 adult coastals, 2 of my adult coastals I have had since hatchies. two are around the 8-9ft mark and the other around 7-8. The smaller was a fussier feeder hence the size difference. Will have to get them out to give them a better measure and weigh them to check their weights.

Cheers
Daz

Those "silly computer programs" work perfectly well, they just need to be used properly. They ceratainly are better than using a tape or measuring with a ruler on a computer monitor as i used to. You make a good point about the high amount of error likely, but you cant blame a computer program, its like blaming a calculator if you get the wrong answer.

Well, yes, but very few people understand how to use them properly and just a small change in angle or proximity can make a large difference on the result. For most people the string method would be best. Of course, the largest problem is still that people will do whatever they can to find an excuse to exaggerate. Apparently if you have a larger snake you're a better person.
