Caostal + caostal

Can i put two coastal hatchlings out of the same hatch in the same enclosure ?
One has eaten 9 times and the other only 4 there is a noticeable difference in size mainly the girth.
Can there be any problems with doing this ?
Thanks Mick

Keep them seperate for the time being. Especially if there is a size difference.

It's always best in my opinion to keep snakes separate for health monitoring, feeding and eventual breeding issues, but there are always times that you are short of space and as long as you keep them separate when feeding, I haven't ever come across any problem with it.

Mick I have three hatchies in together at the moment. 2 Coastals and a Murray Darling and this is a practice I have held for years and to date I have never had any dramas. As long as your snakes are near enough to a similar size it is very very unlikely you will have any dramas. I also house my two new Scrub Hatchies together as well and no problems there either. As NCHERPS mentioned though it is important to make sure that you do control there feeds and don't feed them together in the same enclosure as it can result in two snakes fighting over the same feed.

i keep my 5 month old bredli in with my 3 month old md, and they are great mates, they curl up together in the same hide despite there being 4 to choose from.

Yeh i wouldnt keep two together. I remember when i was doing work experience at the zoo i was feeding about 5 boa constrictor hatchlings that were is the same cage. I fed one and then another one went for a pinkie that was in another boas mouth. I had to get the guy to sparate them and he said that things could have got pretty nasty!

Regards Ether

that usually ends up with one snake trying to swallow the other because neither will back down. has been fatal for both snakes. always feed separately. wonder how youd go with a two headed snake? probly have to tape ones mouth shut, be stressful.

I always feed out of the enclosure.
I also would make sure they were seperate at the time of feeding.
Thanks
