I was playing around for ages with the snake, had the camera on a tripod and was trying her in a heap of different shots and found when she was going away from me i got the best shots, seemed to show her colour and pattern better.

The Cape Yorks that I have seen are more evenly banded, with not as much of the cream colour.Yours is certainly different and I think all the better for it.

but here goes nothing....
SHE'S A RIPPER!
I find most carpets really boring, but she's great. I think the photos are great too. I like seeing more head shots personally, but you seem to have captured all the different stages of her colouring.

Tourett | Tourett, I'm finding you strangely fascinating  You seemed to have changed somewhat!
On a serious note, That's exactly what I thought when I saw her, but Nick tells me she's a Cape York. Certainly she has that distinctive colouring and banding that makes you think she's a Darwin but looks like we are both wrong After all it is Nicks snake He can call it what he likes (just jokes! I have a lot to learn! :wink
She's an absolute beaut Nick, I love the photos! |

I'm only a novice herper but it seems that the distinctions within the carpets (Morellia) are many and varied, with new types popping up all time.

I ask this question because I know of people on this site that claim to have cape York carpets that were found only 45 minutes from Cairns. In regards to different colour morphs of carpets found around the Cairns, Port Douglas, Rossvale, Mt Surprise, etc there are several. However the carpets found way up the cape in my opinion are different again. The arguement that the carpets found in the vicinity of places just mentioned are cape yorkers just because those areas could be considered to be the base of cape York doesn't stack up to me. Any what do other think? |
