First attempt at photographing wild pythons

I used to attempt to do a daily bush walk when I lived on the gold coast and would often walk deep into a local conservation park. I had just got a Minolta waterproof camera (before I took animal photographs seriously) and can across a huge coastal of about three meters. After taking a couple of full body shots , I decided to take a couple of head shots. By this time the snake had had the jack of me and was furiously hissing. To cut the story short I placed the camera in front of the snake and took the photo just as the snake struck the camera. This was a pre digital camera and I had my eye up against the camera, watching a large python bite a camera through the cameras viewfinder is a memorable but not recommended experence.

I told the snake off and attempted to do the shot again - with the same results.
Neither photo came out

Oh what a pity, now that would have been a real classic shot. I envy you mate, ive never had the pleasure of encountering a python in the wild. That would really make my day.

one of my first encounters (That I actully remember, and not from a photo) We lived in a stilt house, out bush, and i'm about 6-7. I'm sitting on the railing up top, when I look down and see something green holding my leg to the railing.(The railing was green too!!!!). Look closer, and see that it was a large green tree snake!! I scream for my dad, and proceed to slip, and fall backwards off the railing. I fell and crushed mum's new garden! Mum's screaming, cause she thinks i'm dead, Dad's yelling cause there's a snake getting into the house, siblings are screaming cause mum and dad are screaming!!!!!! Meanwhile, snakie quickly moves off into the house and proceeds to live in the walls, ceiling and the tree brushing the house for the next year!!!

Bushwalk.
Buskwalk, Buskwalk, Buskwalk.
I seen about 20 wild pythons - but all coastals so far . biggest was way over 3 meters. The trick is to walk places where pythons are found at the time when pythons are active ( come to think of it, its not much of a trick ). Spring is the best time of the year, and early morning while they are out basking. Walk quietly and ( if possible and safe ) walk alone. I've been told that the best time for MDs in SA is during wet thunderstorms in spring and summer so I'll put that to the test this year.

When I was in primary school I used to run around collecting Eastern Beardies in the out-of-bounds area at Holland Park Primary in Brisbane (anyone, anyone?). As I used to live quite close to the school, I sometimes brought them home to keep for awhile.

Anyway to cut the story short, One day I brought a real big one into show to my Mum, who was just putting the finishing touches on one of her prized Merrang pies, she looked up just as I was saying 'Guess what I got from school today' just to see it leap from my hands, smack, bang into the middle of this Merrang she made, and with each mad, scrambling step was taking out huge, clawed-shaped chunks of merreng. Had to be one of the funniest things I'd ever seen - my Mum also had a laugh after she stopped fuming! Certainly made for a nice soft landing for the Beardie

ps. Welcome Mate.
