caught another snake!!

it was the usual boring day today and i was watching Venom ER on tv. Then I got a call from someone who had a snake in their house. They told me that they called Wires but 15 minutes later there were still no one. And apparently they told the woman it was a venomous snake and she should get out the house and lock it in (smart call).. So i arrived at the house and in the bath tub was a 1.8m diamond python.. i droped my snake hook and picked it up and she almost fainted. I released it around 20 mins after the capture. here are some pics of the big guy.

nice catch but wouldnt you be wearing long pants and shoes to go to a callout, especially if told it may be a venomous snake?

Good work. My question is though, what were you going to do if it was a ven? Are you experianced with catching and relesing them? You go lucky this time that it wasn't but if you were going there to try be a macho man and then you cam across a large angry brown what were you going to do? Oh yeah call wires again I don't think you should be getting known for catching and releasing vens if you haven't done it befor, it's highly illeagal if you aren't licensed.

Armand - Beautiful snake - less and less of them being seen in Sydney...it's a shame...

I guess you've already been reprimanded about going to a Ven call out - particularly in unsuitable attire - but you really should take some notice...as has been said, a cranky Eastern Brown would have annihilated you - a cranky Red Belly would likely have done the same...be careful and get some professional training...

...I hope you explained to the woman that she should remain patient next time she calls WIRES - 15 minutes is hardly any time at all - the call has to be sent to a volunteer, who then needs to kit up, then drive to the location - I couldn't go to my local shops with that sequence of events let alone prepare to tackle a Ven...

I got a call out this afternoon from a woman who said her son seen a snake (maybe black, maybe brown) while he was wipper snippering. He saw it and ran. It had been an hour since he had seen the snake somewhere in the back yard. I told her it had probably dissapeared somewhere and it was unlikely I would be catching it but I would come and have a look to ease her mind. Well guess what. When I got there it was sunning it's self on the grass and it was an Eastern Brown Snake! It decided to play hard to get, darting through the long grass and into a retaining wall. I was there for an hour while to son cut the long grass along the wall and we pulled part of the wall a part. In the end I cought the bugger.

well done, and take a little bit of notice of the nay sayers... and take heed of their advice...
but don't take so much notice of them that you don't rescue snakes in the future...

i started out cycling round my town catching snakes from yards when (from the look of the photo) i was your age, and I believe that if you don't get a feel for venomous species in your teens then you never truly will...

...my advice is to rig up a bag on a stick, cos nine times out of ten you wont even have to touch a snake with such a rig, they just slide into the safe darkness when you put it in front of them...

once again, congratulations on a job well done
