Question Chicken necks????

I have seen a few posts about feeding pythons chicken nesks and was wondering if someone could answer a few questions.

At what age is it ok to feed chicken necks? Are they just as good for the snake as rodents? And has anyone fed them to jungles?

I would say that if the diameter of the neck is of similar size of the rats/mice you feed than it can take a chicken neck.
I use them every second feed.

hey,

As devil said as long as they are the same size i wouldnt see it being a problem, i feed em to my jungles and my male loves them and my female who is a bit fussy will take them without too much messing around either. I probably started using them when my snakes were just over a year old.
Cheaper than rats too.....

Dave

I personally wouldnt be feeding necks the same diameter as the rodents i feed, as the necks vetebrae are sharp and can stick out. I dont feed necks that are any bigger than about 1.5 times the diameter of the width of the snakes head. Maybe im just being over cautious though.

hi dave

My b&g is just over a year old as well so I might see how she goes on one today. Also do you feed your jungle at night or during the day?

I have read quite a few of your posts chris and along with the two other guys that have replied to this post, seem to know what your talking about so I will take all advise given as the last thing I want to do is hurt my girl.

Cheers

Klit - i feed them at night normally - mainly because its normally dark when i get home from work! I find the chicken necks normally take a bit longer to defrost as they are a pretty solid chunk of meat and bone so make sure they are nice and bendy and soft before feeding. I find in the big bags of chicken necks you can buy from woolies you will often get a few big ones and heaps of smaller ones so finding a few little ones to try first shouldnt be a problem.
Cheers,
Dave

SUCCESS guys!!!! Put a chicken neck in her enclosure last night before I went to bed and this morning it was gone! Giddy up!!

It is helpful as I work in a mine and am away for 2 weeks at a time so now the boss can feed my girl why I am away.

Hi I Read This Post A Couple Of Days Ago And Decided To Give It A Go My Costal Females Are 10 Years Old And I Was Very Sceptical That They Would Eat A Chicken Neck.well They Took Them Instantly One Even Attacked The Tongs I Was Holding Them With. Not Too Sure About The Nutritional Value So Sprinkled A Little Supplement On Them.i Am Now Thinking Every 3rd Or 4th Feed Might Be Chicken Necks 4 Large Ones Cost Me 59 Cents. Any More Oppinions Appreciated Thanks.
