Childreni Crossing

Hi all,
I found this little guy last night trying to cross a taxi way on the RAAF Base. We nearly ran him over and there was a Tawny Frogmouth checking him out aswell. It is a Childrens Python (Katherine Phase) and has quite nice markings, it is in great condition except for a scar 3" from the end of its tail. I have re located him to a safer spot in the scrub now.

RE: Childreni Crossing

hey it's great that at least some people pay attention to whats on the road. good work for saving such a beautiful creature! I bet the tawny frogmouth wasn't too impressed though, you deprived him of dinner

RE: Childreni Crossing

Yep,
Mainly Childrens, but we are always finding Olives , BHPs , whip snakes and Brown Tree Snakes. They love the warm roads up here, there isn't much traffic
on Base so they are not really road smart, I have nurtured a bit of a "snakes are cool" culture at my Squadron and if there is a snake hanging around the guys normaly give me a ring. Night shifts are great, you never know what you will see.

.

Sorry couldn't resist posting a pic of my favourite bird, we used to get them around our old property all the time, and although they are mortal enemies of snakes, i still love 'em
