Welcome to the site. My suggestion would be a stimmie, but I'm bias. You will need to start them out in a click clack, with a few hides, a small water bowl and a small heat mat. Well thats the basics covered.

gday spike, welcome to the site. they seem to be a popular choice; small, fairly docile, not too hard to get eatin etc. i prefer carpets but they can be twice the size but still feature most of the same easy starting traits. as shelby said, theyre ur basics

Welcome Spike.
Start of with what you feel comfortable with, can afford to keep and also think about the size it will grow too. Our first snake was a Childreni, we then got a coastal, bredli, childreni, diamond, diamond, 2 more childreni's.
A little enclosure will hold a click clack and comfortably house a hatchy.
Hope your choice is not too hard.

The childreni sp are a good starter snake IMO. Maybe a blonde mac would be good for you.
P.S you stole my site name, i wasnt allowed to register as Spike

Children's pythons are a very forgiving species of reptiles.

Can you ever stop at one? It's like a bag of chips really.... But no...can't just try one flavour... go for them all... :-P
I started, and still have, a beautiful Spotted Python named Peyote... Im a freshie at this... But wouldn't have it any other way. She's a fantastic eater, and quite the entertainer too (for some strange reason).
Good luck...
