They don't need UV, I think it's a bit large, i'd put the extra ft into the width and hight... 3x2x2 is ideal imo.

It's just coz i have a spair 4x1.5x1.5 lying around and wanna use it. Yommy, if i get a juvy, ill use a click-click for a while first. I don't wanna use UV, not coz of prices, but because i need it installed by a electrician. Also, will i need a thermoSTAT if i use a heat mat? And, what is the best heating source for terrestrial snakes?
Cheers

that size should be fine , as for heating i use heat cords routed into the floor of antaresia cages or tubs .
Dont worry about UV lights , not needed .
Any heat source "should" have a thermo .

mine is a 3x2x2. he is almost 1m long now and he has heaps of room and seems happy. i prob wouldn't go much larger than that. if you do make sure you got plenty of hides.

UV isn't needed, although i'm sure there are still many great debates. just let your snake see the sun every now and then if your woried (but don't let him cook).

Heat cords works the same way as heat mats , they are just cheaper and more versatile .
You could just sit your cage on top of the cord , or like i do rout a groove in the base of the cage and run the cord through it .
I have heard of people putting them into the cages and using tiles on top of them .
Make sure you dont cross the cord over itself .

it wouldn't heat it up much or in many areas though, would it? And what wattage would you need? and is a thermostat needed with them or is a simple thermostat fine?
Cheers

They heat up very well , with a longer cord you could heat a much bigger area than a mat ...
I usually run about 8-10 grooves under 1/3 of the cage and use 15watt cords .
If you want a thermostat get a microclimate , they are very good and well worth the money .

I have a microclimate 300 set up for my beardy. I would also recomend them. Though jees, 8 grooves, wouldn't that get hot as? And dicky, if it ain't a problem, can you get some pics for me? I'm really confused?!?!?!?
LMAO

With 8 grooves it would be no bigger than a large sized heat mat .
It does not get that hot , as the grooves are under the cage in most cases and it warms through the timber , if i do put the grooves inside i put lino tiles over the cord and it holds the heat well ...
I always have plenty of cold end in the cages any way , so the snakes can pick hot or cold as they like.
I have 1000's of photos of cages but none that show the grooves sorry .

i'm in the process of setting up for a stimmie myself, which is quite similar in requirements. i ended up going with a heat bulb, but mainly for veiwing reason, mine's a wooden enclosure so without a light you can't see the snake. mine's, a 10 month old is going straight into a 2ft square enclosure and might upgrade to a 3ft after a few years of growing. UV is still a debate, but some kind of day night cycle is a must IMO and i ten dto agree that a source of UVA is probably benifical for physilogical reasons, some keepers private and commercal agree with this, some don't at the end of the day it's one of those up to you things. hope that helps

You'd need to keep it in the tub quite a while even yearlings would prob freak in 4ft tanks... Depends how much you feed i guess. I've used lights, heat mat and cord, all seemed to work fine, cord was good as it's longer and can supply heat to more tubs (if you'r using tubs) it was good untill a bird ate it
