Hey guys,
I just have a few questions about childrens pythons:
What size enclosure is reccomended for adult childrens?
What heating source is recomended?
What degrees should the basking area be?And,
Childrens Pythons being terrestrial(i think) Is it OK, to have branches for climbing and elevating them?
Any advise appreciated!
Cheers
Dylan

a good size enclosure would be 3 ft for an aduit, a infared heat globe for heat sorce and a thermostat set at about 28 degrees in hot spot. and branches will be fine in with them they mite not use them but it will look good anyway, my childrens python uses his branches.
hope that helps.

there are a few threads on this but i have a spottie and know about childrens, most people seem to use heating mats as they are terrestrial, an enclosure should be big enough that he can stretch out fully in. basking should be about 33-35 and around 26-28 in the cold area. and putting in branches and climbing things are fine as it gives the snake somethign to do and he wouldnt mind, make sure that there is something rough to help him shed as well, maybe a rock or branch.

OK, thanx for the quick replies guys, I was thinking using a ceramic heating bulb at a low wattage and a heat mat? Would this be OK? And how high and deep should the enclosure be?
Thanx again, Cheers

yeah that would be fine for heat sorce its just the infareds lets you see a bit betta, but then again ya can use a coloured party globe so that you can see him at night, mine enclosure is 3 ft long 2 ft high and about 1.5 ft deep.

its really upto you, it doesnt ahve to be that high as it is a terrestrial species. and as deep as you want as long as there are hot spots and cool spots, hiding places and room for water. a 3ft would be ideal but doesnt have to be deep or high. gives it penty of room to stretch out. the heating u suggested would do fine, but i would put them in two different places as having both together would make it too hot in one area.

I was thinking of maybe a 4ftx2ftx2ft? That would be fine I gather. I want to use a ceramic bulb coz I have read some snakes get freaked out by flashing or bright lights
Also, would I need one of those Ministat thermostats for them?
Cheers

Beardy boy, your better off using a heatmat or heatcord instead of bulbs imo. They spend most of the time on the ground which is where the heatmat or cord will be placed, rather then the snake having to climb up to reach the heat from the bulb.
And a 4 foot cage might be a tad too big....maybe stick with a 3 footer mate.
Bill.

I use 3x2x2's for my adults but same have it a lil smaller, heating wise i've used both heat mat and bulbs, for other species aswell, both work fine, if i were using heatmats through winter i'd put a light in aswell so they air isn't to cold. They like it at about 32-35 imo, 32 being the ideal heat here, i let it get to about 35 basking spot, most of mine will come out and bask aswell.
