As far as I know, you don't need UV.

I would go so far to say that no UV would be in some way detrimental, however the affect is so negligible that it is not considered necessary for most snakes.

what if they are in a room that recieves no natural light and going outside regularly is not an option?
shoudln't snakes be exposed to a photoperiod ie have day and night simulated? given this could be achieved with a red bulb at night and a clear one during day, but wouldn;t poping on a UV bulb to achieve the day/night thing be an idea even if it's not essential in terms of UV requiements?

If you want to use a UV light globe make sure u go down to the reptile store and read the packaging. From memory all you should use on snakes is the 0.2. Also it is only effective up to a certain distance away from the globe. Some of these globes can be $30 or $40 plus and a normal globe on a timer would be a cheaper option. For a childrens I see it not neccessary for UV.

I would save your money and use a normal compact flouro globe ....much cheaper to run and a lot cheaper to buy .
