Me and my 3 mates were walking and i was in the front and my mate shouts out SNAKE!! now at first i thought he was pulling my leg cause he knows i like snakes but then i realized about 10cm away from my foot was a 1m+ eastern brown.. lol at first i was scared cause it was a good 25-30 degree day and it would of been active but it didnt move and while i was standing there dead still askin my mate to throw me a stick so i can move the snake away i noticed the snake just moving away... After about 20 seconds the snake was gone into the bush with no hassel at all..
I thought i might tell that story especially for those people that think Eastern Browns are aggressive and will chase you (which no one can actually say happened to them).. I was 10cm (maybe less) away from it and it didnt even move other than trying to get away..

The Neville Burns DVD "It's time to cut the crap.....The truth about australian snake" dispells this as well and is a good watch well worth the pennies

Also, a king brown is not a type of brown snake, and is in fact a black snake. Just out its scientific name, it's Pseuochis, not Pseudonaja. The former is black and the latter is brown.
Stories about snakes tend to get exaggerated, such as the typical "I was this HUGE coastal python and its head was as big as my FOREARM!" People can say that a snake chased them, and yet not one of them can prove it. I would say that your friend was joking, even if I don't know him.

All snakes are differant. How can you say someone is lying/exagerating when you weren't there?
Fair enough, most snakes will retreat, but sure;y there are some exceptions to the rule?

The fastest land snake in the world is the aggressive black mamba found in the southern part of tropical Africa. You might have heard stories about this snake overtaking people on galloping horses but although these snakes are fast, they aren't that fast. They can reach top speeds of 10-12 mph (16-19 km/hr) in short bursts over level ground - good luck trying to outrun one of these snakes if you tick it off!

must be a slow quad bike

A year on he's getting better and can handle watching me handle mine though.
