Coastal breeding q?

This will be my first season of breeding my coastals. Just wondering how do you know when the female is ovulating? Also in coastals when can ovulation and gravidity be expected?

In one of Doc Rocs breeding articles he mentions that you can tell an ovulating snake by the position they put them selves in when you lift them. It's hard to explain but he has some pics which help understand what he is saying. Hope that helps mate & good luck with them

Hi Hornet,
Ovulation is only for a day or so, but it is very recognizable swelling.
Coastals generally go later than macs and bhps, I wouldnt expect to see it for a month or two.
Mine are only just starting the mating cycle.
Once she has ovulated, she is gravid. As her clutch grows and moves she becomes more and more uncomfortable - she has her pre-lay shed - by then it is noticeable that she is gravid and roughly a month from laying.
If you miss the ovulation, by pre-lay time you should be back in the know, until then you speculate and change your mind daily! lol
Good luck with her,
Cheers
Adam.

I also live in Brissie and here is a very brief history of mine. I have bred coastals last 4 years with great sucess and it is very easy.
I usually cool by keeping day temps in high 20's and no heat at all at night. This is when it starts to cool around May-June. No feeding is done.
In July-August I pair up and usually get action straight away.
I usually get eggs in Early November, and have never witnessed ovulation or side-basking. BUT she definately swells up in mid section.
They also shed about 1 month prior to laying.
I seperate the male for a few days every fortnight to spur on some action when re-introduced and that is about it for coastals.
