Another surprise this morning. One of my coastal carpets has laid 18 good eggs & 1 slug. She is going on 5 years old & this is her second clutch. Last year she laid 9 eggs.

Thanks guys, it is going to be a busy christmas/new year. Last year her hatchlings were either a steely silver/black colour or brownish/black colour. I have another female to lay and she is my pick of the two. This year will be her first clutch. She is very brown in colour with shades of green in sunlite - heres hoping.

Thanks bitey, junglemad & mrsshep77. When I found her she had her head right under the clutch & up through a hole. The loose egg was attachedto the rest but came away when I removed her. She must have just finished laying.

Looks like she laid on the bottom of the enclosure just on the newspaper.... Was it dificult taking the eggs off her and also transfering them to the substrate.... Thats what scares me the most i think my coastal will lay very soon and she likes the paper..

She did lay them on the bottom of the enclosure, tfor2. I did provide a nesting box the same as last year but I could see she was probably going to lay them on the bottom as she did. I put down extra newspaper a weighted it with a rock & water bowl so she couldn't get under the lower newspaper. I put extra layers on top and that is were she laid. I was lucky as the eggs lifted off very easy - she must have just finished laying. She was very defensive so I coaxed her off with a rat. The eggs seperated from the newspaper very easily. If the eggs were too stuck I would have ripped the newspaper as close to the eggs as possible and put them in the incubation material like that - they will still hatch if fertile.
