Coastal Taipans

Well, they finally all hatched. Unfortunately 4 appear to have suffocated overnight in their egg container while I was waiting for them to fully emerge. A sad waste of life and a lesson learned. In future I will use bigger containers.

So on Tuesday night myself and John Weigel tried to sex all 13 younsters. It was the longest 1 hour of my life. These have to be the most aggresive Taipan hatchlings I and John have ever seen. What a nightmare trying to probe all of these 15 inch long killing machines. We both come so close to been bitten just too many times.

Kenshin,
Broadheadeds can be a real handful too. Actually all three Hoplocephalus can be flighty and are not nice animals be bitten by. I really have to agree with you on the Blacksnakes though, absolutely brilliant animals to keep for both looks and temperament.

Heres a pic of a male I am going to hang on to. He got real upset when I removed his hide box for the pic. Started to chew his mouth like crazy, as well as whip the end of his tail.

Stupid question. But would a bite from one that size be fatal?

Craig,
I'm pretty sure juveniles are as deadly as their parents, and are even more prone to chewing than their folks.

Craig, a bite from a Taipan of this small size would be fatal if left untreated.

I'd be happy to sit back with a bourbon and wait to see if anyone could disprove it though. Nice looking snake Bob but with the number of people in my house who like to handle my animals while i'm at work and leave lids off.........................i think you can keep em' to yourself

Thats a bit harsh Bob....LOL. I am sure they were just playing. ;-)

I love the taipans, awesome creatures but I don't think I would ever keep them. Although the one you posted a pic of makes it tempting......:-)
