I have a blue party globe on at night for my mac, just to keep his click clack a bit warmer, it's been getting cold here in SA these last few weeks!
I got it from the pet shop but now I know what it really is it's off to bunnings for me!

The phillips ones have the colour running right up to the attachment end of the globe - some cheaper brands have a space with unpainted glass so you'll get some white light showing still.
Going to set up the 3ft enclosures for my diamonds this weekend but now I'm thinking 2 x 40 watts per enclosure may not be warm enough? Should I go 1x 40 watt, 1 x 60 watt or maybe even 2 x 60 watt? They are around 1.5 ft high and deep. :

I bought a new enclosure today for my Diamond yearling its 36in x 18in x 18in and came fitted with a UV fluro and Three blue party globes all 40W. and an Imit. I was told to set the thermostat at 26deg by the local Pet store.
He seems happy enough at this stage.

when I started keeping reptiles I had no pre concieved ideas of how everything worked. I worked it out for myself using common sense .... Pythons are nocturnal, they like to move about at night but it has to be DARK, but still warm. Coloured lights like Blue (more so than red) or Purpleor better still the ceramic heat emitters (that can last over two years, you can buy a lot of bulbs in that time,) with no light do the trick. I never understood why commercial enclosures had like 3,4 and sometimes7 heat light fittings till I realised people were trying to use bulbs not reflectors. Spot lights or reflectors produce far more heat and project that heat much further into the enclosure , creating a basking point and a much better thermal gradient . If you want to use party bulbs and you are worried about the temperature, just keep in mind During the day its ok to be warmer and light so a normal white spot light for $3 from the suppermarket works great. ( I still have my UVB flouro for the right light spectrum and vitamins).
So my enclosures run like this... one high wattage coloured spot light (or ceramic) on thermostat, 24/7. One normal white spot light that runs only day time hours and increases the "day" temperature, just like the sun.
My older diamonds can get down to 15deg at night as long as they get the day temp they need they seam to be happy , should be some of them have been kept like this for over 9 years now! . Hope this helps a little?

I was told by the people at the pet shop (Amazing Amazon) that 21 was down the bottom end of acceptable. . But to give you an indication, it's a yearling diamond python).
| Is the one you are getting from Amazing Amazon a male?
If so I bought his sister from there last week. They were very good, and helpful I found.
