Cooling down

How do you ppl's cool your snakes down? I've heard plenty of different ideas.about how cool my pythons down. Some say turn all heat off, others say turn it down, then another has said heat off all day but turn on overnight.

What's your opinion?

Oh, I probably should mention, I have a Port Diamond and a pair of stimsons, incase its different for different species. I am hoping to have some baby OPALS this year
cheers

Go to www.bom.gov.au look up the area your snakes came from and find the natural temp gradient your snakes would have lived in and just replicat that.

Great advice, except if you live in Canberra!

In some areas it may be Ok to turn heat of altogether overnight, but it is not a healthy practice if your enclosure would get down below 5degC constant at night (which is quite common in garages in Canberra and parts of Victoria).

A bit of commensense and what waruikazi said (bom research will help guide you). I prefer to use the gradual cooling method as if it were changing seaons.

since i am not planning to breed any of my snakes this season i leave it up to my snakes to decided whether or not they want to hibernate. most of them have slowed down alot of the last 2-3 weeks. i havnt changed any of the heating at all yet and probably wont for a little while.

it dosnt matter if it gets to below 5 degrees at night as long as they have hot days, infact its a good thing. Especially if they have 10-15 layers of paper to go under as this will help hold body temps but let the snake feel the cool temps. This only needs to be done for 2-4 weeks. So yes it is a healthy practice.
So even in canberra, hot days cold nights. simple.
