Make sure you go "with the grain" of the scales, otherwise you can cause damage. Just slowly apply pressure to the area as he is moving through your hands and it should come away very easily.

Last night we got Monty out and let him slither through a wet face washer. He enjoyed this and the remaining skin was gone in about 10 minutes. We let him have an hour or so of social time then put him away. Afterhalf an hour or so we offered him food but he was not interested.
