Bide your time - sometimes there are good and bad times of the day to get them out. Also if you're coming at them with your hand in front of their head then common sense tells you that they have the opportunity to bight. Until you know your snake a bit better try and avoid that.

I find that they're least likely to bight when they're resting, because when you rouse them their first instinct is often flight and that's the best time to get them, when they're trying to get away from you. If they look like they want to stand and fight then maybe come back again and try later. If you must get them out when they want to fight, I volunteer something like a roll of paper towel to them instead of my hand. A couple of gentle nudges around the nose and usually they back down and try to hide which is when you make your move.

Try not to get bitten because your reaction is usually instinctively to retract your hand with vigour often with snake and teeth attached. This can hurt your snake. If you must put limbs in danger try to look away - it helps prevent the reflex action to retract your arm.

good luck

use a hook to get them out. why stress the snake and yourself some will let you jut go straight in and pick them up others get a bit cage protective.

You mention NEW SNAKE - how long have you had him/her?
I was advised not to get my new snake out until he had 4 feeds, only to get him out to do the neccessary things- like cleaning and feeding. Other than that to leave him well alone. Its hard though.
