I doubt it would be pleiotropy (one gene affecting multiple traits). I'd guess it's due to common origins, like slanty eyed people having black hair. Linkage disequilibrium is another possibility, although I'd guess that to be very unlikely.

why do you dismiss the link between red hair and fair skin, and yet suggest it could be like asian people and dark hair? (i assume by your comment on eye shape you are referring to asian people)
coming from a country where red heads are very common i know for a fact you do not see many red heads with skin coloured anything browner than snow!

I was gonna suggest it might be the two separate genes appearing on the same chromosome, possibly close together.

interesting you mention the horseshoe shape being linked to yellow diamonds cos both ours are quite yellow and both have the horseshoe shape

oh i think its a diamond too btw

That's interesting about the horseshoe shape. Thanks Serpenttongue. Unfortunately my juvenile diamond doesn't have it

But just looked at the photos of the high yellows from the wildlife expo darling harbour and see that they had it too.
