Diamond Python Enclosure

Hi all. I had an idea for my diamond python enclosure which I thought was pretty clever and just wanted to run it by people on here for some opinions...

As most people know Diamond Pythons need to be kept cooler than other snakes and therefore I have come up with a way to do this that I think might just work...

I have a pair of Adult Diamond Pythons coming soon and am building their tank myself.
So I was thinking about running a water cooling system through the enclosure to help lower the temps when we have hot dry weather. It would be similar to an irrigation system only without drippers or sprinklers attached and it would be attached to a bar fridge so as to supply a constant flow of cold water through the pipes. It would then be attached to the roof of the tank to cool the tank down. Of course this would only be for hot weather and the cooler weather they would have the heater set accordingly.

I have not worked out the finer details yet but that was the plan so far... Obviously keeping them in an air conditioned room would be easier but we have no air conditioning.

Please let me know what you think and if it may or may not work

airration by using a fan out of an fridge motor or microwave works well to drop the temp and cheap

That sounds like a good but complicated idea, I recogn for hotter temperatures the easiest solution to cooling down an enclosure would be to use a lower wattage blub and if u want to cool down the tank use large computer fans attached to the vents of the outside of the tank.

How warm does it get in SA during winter?

Good luck with your project

We have had in excess of 40+ over summer this last time and it is still reaching temps of 30 on some days

yeah the fans would be the better way to go...although you may just stumble across another advanced husbandry technique that works better then anything else so far!!! although if there is more water running thru the tank it would raise the humidity slitely (depends if the water is in the open)....anyway good luck

In a glass tank it might work but in a wooden enclosure you'd have worry about the humidity rooting and swelling the wood.

you could try and just put an ice pack in the enclosure on really the really hot days and turn off all heating

I remember TB suggested or mentioning something similar

What sort of heating do you plan to have in there anyway?

I use computer fans, get them from Tandy or Dick Smith, cover them with wire so the snake can't get to it. Sounds good though, but the water would have to remain in the fridge for a while to cool down.

sounds like a good idea but difficult and maybe expensive, ice pack sounds good or the computer fans but you would need a power supply as they run on 5v DC, it would be very cheap and easy to set up though.

Yeah after careful consideration I have decided this idea is probably not the smartest, as far as heating it would be a normal heat globe but on hot days over here i have noted my tanks reaching 35 degrees on 40 degree days obviously with the heating turned of.

Yeah, i found that with my frog tank. I had to turn everything off and take the blanket off the screen lid. I normaly have that for humidity, but it was just too hot!

I reckon it got up to 37 on one particular day!!
