Hi I just have a question for anyone who knows a lot about diamond pythons. I know they come in the form of black and white, and also some have black white and high yellow. Has anyone ever heard of them having orange in with the yellow and black. Here is a pic of the one's I'm talking about, are they pure diamonds or have they been crossed with something in the past. Attachment 6676 Attachment 6677
one is the male, the other the female.

The first pic looks pure, just older and colour is darkening, the second pis looks like a cross.
An intergrade is a naturally occuring cross between diamonds and coastals occuring on the NSW north coast.
There have been endless debates on this site on Intergrade's, Crosses and Hybrid's.

Steve has some stunning intergrades. You should ask him for some pics.

Thanks for that, yeah I was suss on the second pic because the diamond marks on it look more longer like stripes rather than diamonds.

I won't cause any problems to the animal but as for $$$ value, most people want pure bred animals. If you are selling hatchlings from them you are morally obliged to tell people that the mother is a cross. Crosses/intergrades sell for a little less due to them not being as desirable.

Thr first does look pure and second a cross needless to say that they may both be great snakes though. Just be honest when selling the hatchlings and you should sell thell all. Maybe a little cheaper than expected but they should sell.

If you're looking to buy, they're both ugly, so don't.
If you own them, then.. erm.. suffer |

| This is incorrect. Naturally occuring, yes......... a cross, NO!
Intergrade is a misleading term, it makes people imagine that the diamonds and coastals are mating in the wild. In actual fact the Port Macquarie carpet (commonly and incorrectly called the intergrade) is just another locality form of carpet (like the Diamond carpet, brisbane carpet, etc etc etc). No crossing, just another locale type.

ok, thanks for that everyone. I won't worry about buying them. The guy was asking $600 for them, and they didn't like handling so I won't worry about it, but thankyou for all the help.

You like the animal you buy it $600 for the pair is a good price if being sold as intergrades, if being sold as pure diamonds he is kidding himself way too chunky.

-H | An intergrade is a combination of the two sub sp, therefore it is a naturally occuring cross that in time has produced its own strain of sub sp

I believe a Port mac to be its own locale specific subspecies, just as a diamond, jungle and coastal are their own. Nothing was crossed to make a diamond. It is a locale specific subspecies.

See, thats where the fun beging. I'm unger the understanding that Port Macs are a diamond/carpet intergrade. I'm not saying that I am right, that is just what I believe to be accurate.
