this season I had three diamonds in an aviary(2 adult males, 1 adult female ).
Well I was trying to breed the girl and I had not noticed anything going on. I had never sexed the males so I put in my male Murray darling carpet to see if he would go for the males.
He went over to one of the males and started combating with him.
The other male started to make his way over to them and at this point I removed the Murray male.
Well the two Diamond males started to combat with each other and continued through the next day.
So much for diamonds not combatting.
Cheers
Luke

IMO just cos its never seen or sort of unheard of, doesnt mean it never happens. Remember animals are extremely unpredictable and always seem to amaze.

I had one of my male diamonds injured by another one this year and also a mate had to have stitches put in one of his diamonds. The vet (Terry Belamy) said it was from being attacked by tthe other snake as it was bite/teeth marks.
I was told they don't combat as well, but maybe some do.

Junglepython,i Have kept lots of male diamonds together all year round with and without females and have never seen any fighting.
I do believe that the scent of the Murray darling carpet played a big part in this as your 2 male diamonds werent fighting beforehand. If the carpet was never put in the diamond enclosure do you think the diamonds would have fought anyway? What was their body posture like during the combat ?
Is it possible the M.D.carpet had rodent scent on it which in turn got the diamonds going ? Im just trying to raise some possibilities but if you believe they were fighting then they probably were. If they continue try and get some photos.
In any case

The male snakes were not being fed at all during period when they fought.
The combat was the usual pushing and shoving, twisting full body length tegether and then trying to queeze each other. The Murray is quick to bite other males, this is why I removed him straight away. The diamonds did not bite each other.
It was definately combatting. Why would the diamonds be set off by the smell of the Murray? Do you think this is natures way of trying to keep the Diamond bloodlines pure?

I dont think the diamond males would of fought if the murray male had not been put into the enclosure.
I think maybe the murray starting the combat triggered the response in the diamonds and then they just continued this response.
