Diamonds in the rain

Time: 8:45am
Temp: 20 degrees
Weather: raining and miserable

This guy is in the avairy outside soaking up the rain. They do this quite often.

How are you keeping your diamonds? Under a hotspot of 32 degrees in a nice dry enclosure? Makes you think about the husbandry of these pythons.

cheers

Jonny

yeah it does make you think doesn't it. Lets all forget that they are a primative animal and treat them like little puppies and knit blue cardigans to keep them warm in winter

Diamonds often soak or even hunt in the rain they know that most creatures are tucked up out of the rain in caves and logs exactly were pythons love to explore for food.?
They also soak after a large food item has been eaten, To remove parasites like {mites, ticks} or bad sheds .. This behavior continues in captivity with pythons soaking in water bowls.
I personally provide a soak tub for each python some do some dont.
My pythons certainly get active when it rains in doors or out.

I provide a water bowl big enough for all my snakes to soak in. The Diamonds and Olives are ALWAYS in there after a feed. By the way, that avairy is great, I am sure your Diamonds are very happy.

I've observed this as well.
Not just in the aviary but in enclosures that are outside where they can smell the rain and humidity and feel the cool air.

With so many of us observing this, we can assume this to be normal Diamond behaviour.

Couldnt agree more, none of my diamond have hot spots more than 28 degrees.

40watt globe thats it. they spend most the time up the other end of the enclosure anyway, unless there digesting food.

Definately a cause of a lot of Diamond deaths and even Diamond Python Syndrome IMO.
