I have completed the cooling cycle & started warming my separated diamond pair at the start of August and have introduced & separated for a week starting mid July, there was a initial observed mating but nothing since until this morning where they were at it again. So the question is for Diamonds is it too late in the season yet ? and secondally is it more common for the matings to occur at night then the day ? I suspect they have mated more often than I have seen.
Any feedback appreciated
Thanks |

Seriously, I would say they would do it anytime come the mating season. That would depend on when the seasons come about. So it's not to late now.
Good luck!!! Atleast you ve seen yours mating, I haven't seen any action with a pair of mine. |

That's why I'm not too stressed yet lol. Don't forget Diamonds and Bredli's mate later in the season than most |

But I'm pretty sure at one of Doc Rock's talks at a VHS meeting he had a graph showing diff species and the times of year they mate and unless I'm mistaken Bredli's and Diamonds were very close together and later than all the others. I don't know if one's supposed to be earlier than the other though so couldn't 100% tell ya if they should be "doin it" yet or not lol |

As for Bredli's, I have mine inside and their first witnessed mating was 18.08.06 at 1845 and lasted for over 4 hours I have witnessed them locked on two other occassions since then. But only they know what goes on in that hide
Hope this helped.
Cheers
D.

It's definately not too late. I've seen them mate up until November, although most mating is done in September. They will also mate in August while they are still cooling.
Mating is most common in the very early hours of the morning( 2am until sunrise). They usually seperate at sunrise for basking.

I assume she puts out a pheremone or something just before ovulation?

| That's very interesting Lord Serpent.
Perhaps the warm days & chilly nights, act as a bit of an aphrodisiac.
We're still experiencing cool nights (even though the days are warming up) in Diamond country and they will continue throughout September.
I keep mine outside & they seem to be more amorous after a cooler starry night. They're coiling together like lovebirds cuddling after what may have been a busy night
