just to let you guys know how my diamond who's been crook is getting on. After a couple of weeks of antibiotic injections and gel, the swelling on the head has subsided. He shed a few days after the last injection and took his first rat for a couple of months. He's been very pink on his underside both before and also still after the shed, bit worrying, but for me I'm pleased to see him feeding again.
thanks to all the people who gave me advice on this one.

Glad to hear!
I wouldnt worry about the underside going pink when feeding as all my diamonds do this at feeding time.

What was wrong with him? Is there a previous post I can go read up about him? Glad to hear he's getting better.
And ah....how big's that snake, and how old is he? I am considering a diamond python. Am off to visit a yearling in September after she comes out of hybernation.

kathy, a previous thread was http://www.aussiepythons.com/index.p...ic&t=20432
sorry but I deleted the pics already.
He had a swollen side to his head, the vet I got him to thought it was gingivitis - and prescribed a course of antibiotic injections and antibiotic mouthgel.
He was a model patient throughout.
He's hatched in 2000 coming up for 6.I guess hes about 5-6 foot nearer 6'. 150-180cm.
I'm very pleased he fed although it took him a few attempts to take it, so I wonder if he's not 100% yet.
the pink colour on his underside has been noticeable probably since he was going into shed. I thought it might be due to the general stress of the treatment. I'll give him another couple of days to digest then I'll check him again.

Hi Nick,
So glad that he is doing well!!! We have some diamonds in an aviary...they all seem to go real pink underbelly...esp when they are eating!
I will try and ad some pics.
Regards
Fay

That's really good news. The infection might be cleared or almost, but his mouth may be feeling quite bruised and battered. But definitely on the road to recovery. Wow! They grow big. I wasn't sure if I'm ready for one that big, but so long as I can pick up a placid one, side won't matter.
Lucky vet, gets to check out a snake's mouth...hehehehe
