i have a 10ft diamond python and he is always trying to escape. he is not happy unless he gets out or destroy something (he keeps pulling his heat lamp off the roof or tips water bowl over)i have had to take out all the air vents at the back of enclosure because he gets stuck and i have to take him to the vets to get the plastic cut off him. is there something wrong with his encosure? or is it just him.

Is there lots of furniture in there for him to climb and hide in? Like logs and sticks, fake plants etc etc

Hi ashlea, this is quite simple. You need to design his cage so that it is impossible for him to do any damage. If he is pulling the heat lamp off the roof then it wasn't secure enough in the first place. If he is tipping the water bowl over, it is too light. Get a larger, heavier one so that he cannot tip it over. If he is getting stuck in the vents, replace them with ones he cannot get stuck in.
He is a big snake and you need to house him accordingly. Do you have a light cage protecting the heat lamp? Having one of these will ensure your snake doesn't get burnt from touching the globe, and will make it harder for the snake to be able to do any damage to it.

Ashlea, do you have a light cage around the heat lamp? It would probably be more difficult for it to pull it down if there is one that is secured well. Most times when a snake damages the heat source, it is because they are sourcing more heat and climb onto the light to get more warmth, obviously a 10ft snake is too heavy for any light to handle, thus the damage. This does not mean you should bump up the heat, as diamonds need to be kept cooler, maybe the heat source is switched off to often, thus providing a good ambient temp but no hot spot, try dropping wattage in globes until you find one that is on for most of the time at the correct temps. Also if plastic vents are a problem, find a metal fabrication joint near to you and see if you can get some scraps of perforated sheet, which is essentially a sheet of metal with holes every 5mm or so, and paint it with a primer/paint spray, and you have yourself a maximum security vent. Ventilation is important, so I highly recommend you provide them again.
All in all I think, with as much info as you have supplied, that the thermal gradient is not sufficient, but this is just a guess, until you give more details about the enclosure.

Di you know you can get stainless steel vents that are unbreakable from marine stores, like Whitworths, Bias boating, for about $14 dollars, they look real good to and have no sharp edges.

Hi Ashley.
How big is his enclosure?
Many adult Diamonds need surprisingly large enclosures to feel comfortable, especially a big specimen of 10 ft.
