Disgraceful Reptiles at Dreamworld

Now I know Dreamworld isn't a zoo or anything but I'm really disapointed witht the quality of reptiles on display. Especially calling it an "Australian Reptile Experience". I'd post pictures but quite frankly it would be degrading to Australian pythons.

I remember seeing them a few years ago and didn't think too much about it. I've been again a couple of time since, the most recently being the other day. I think they must purposely over feed their snakes so they get big and fat. Probably to achieve a wow factor from tourist especially internationals. Off the top of my head their Jungle, Woma, Blackheads, and a couple of others were just really dirty looking, about twice as fat as they should be and a disgrace to pythons especially ones for display purposes. With the Woma and Blackheads you could hardly tell they had any patterns as they were just a plain brown, dull, dirty looking thing. Only difference between the 2 snakes was obviously there head.

Some were kept on red dirt and others, including the Jungle, on dead leaves and sticks.

Pretty much if you think of the worst examples of these snakes you've seen, then Dreamworld bought them and displayed them.

Anyway that's my rant and anyone who's been I'm sure will agree.

Cheers,

Choco

Are you saying that Dreamworld has animals you don't consider attractive, and you're calling that (and the snakes themselves) a disgrace?

I went to Dreamworld about 18 months ago, I thought the animals looked fine.

The animals they use aren't the best examples of what the species can look like, but they are most definitely healthy and kept in clean conditions.

I'd rather them look like like a non designer specimen than those you see in poor conditions at some of the petshops and small parks i have seen. Congrats to them for keeping them healthy and clean.

Awesome!! Nothing i like better than drab, faded, dirty looking herps!

So what if they look this way? They are displaying the species, not the colour variations. Makes a nice change from seeing flashy, perfectly marked pythons.

They were fine when I went - and the monitors etc were really active... A bit too active if you know what I mean

To be honest the BHP looked like a BHP to me... was fairly large I agree... But nothing disappointing or didn't look over fed.

Sorry, I'm not sure I agree with the disgrace comments.

But their other lizards, like that Dorothy the Dinosaur, now she was a disgrace... truly over fed!
