My maccys appear to have been mating over the last week or so, how long after mating until you get some signs of being gravid ie belly-up or swelling? At what stage should the male be removed? And will the female still lay belly up even if there is no heat on? Hopefully my first year breeding snakes

I'm a new snake breeder, one of my stimmis is looking like its gravid. Roughly how long from when she goes belly up to when she will lay?

I've had them go belly up minutes after the first time they've copulated, I've had them go belly up over the two or three months after laying eggs, I've had them go belly up during seasons they haven't reproduced in, I've had them lay eggs without going belly up (or at least without having seen it) and I've had males decide to go belly up from time to time. I'm pretty sure I've had females go belly up during every month of the year, this year I had one virgin female go belly up at about 14 months of age. Gravid female snakes going belly up is a bit like pregnant women craving strange food. Pregnant women are prone to it, but non pregnant women and guys do it too. I'd be thoroughly pregnant if wanting to eat strange things meant much

Oh, sorry, you wanted a clear answer...

Eggs come 62-63 days after the female first goes belly up.

Incidentally, a couple of my snakes have gone pretty early this season too; I have two Children's pythons about to have their pre-lay sloughs, which has them on target for being the earliest I've bred them.

Certainly sounds like an early season. My childreni had her pre lay yesterday. This is the earliest I've had any of mine go.

Cheers

bredlis are usually the last to lay

we have gt stimmys that are milky at the moment so pre lay should be any day and one gravid olive and one thats ovulating. Our jungles and darwins have only been put together about 3 weeks ago

Best of luck to everyone.

My Macs & Stimies are putting on size beautifully, 1 girl has almost doubled her cool down weight. Still have the Natural Integrades and Bredli's to go.

Weighed my gravid stimmi.

Just before cooldown she was 330gms today she weighed 390gms... so looks positive so far. Has anyone done any work with percentage weight gains for gravid females? a rough % weight gain?
