East v West

Hi All,
I'm hoping to get a pair of bhp hatchlings this season.
Just wondered what people preferred,
the eastern form or the western form.
also are NT ones considered western form?
Cheers

Basically the difference is how much red is in the banding. True westerns are brown/black and cream and easterns darks bands merge into the cream with a reddish tinge in between.

This is a bit simplistic and the truth is there is a range of colours other than those stated and the NT have the middle ground (clean banding with a bit of red) hence people like them.

There is also a true Western isolated population of BHPs and they are not part of the normal spread pattern of the top-end population.

Personally I prefer pure banding (better distinction the better) with NO red (ie true westerns) but they are much much harder to source.

Cheers Hawkeye

Any bhp is a good bhp.
Ture westerns have to been seen to be belived, bloody beautiful.
My largest male is my favorite, he has orange bands and cream base color really nice, he is a QLD.

Ad, the way it is now even some very well known breeders don't know where there stock originates from, people have been breeding bhps from different localities for years, so it's hard to say where most hatchlings come from.
If you can find someone who still breeds from original wild caught stock then you can be sure.

If you can find true westerns then get them and let me know where you got them from

If not Neil Sonnemann has really nice bhps and his females lay big clutches so they are definatly worth buying, i got some off him last year they have colored very well. I think i may have told you that before.

I don't think he does, I'm not to sure where is stock originates, i think he has QLD and NT. By far some of the nicest bhps around, he also pays for freight with bhps.
He should have some nice hatchlings this year, i know i'll be getting another female off him.

Thanks for the feedback Hawkeye and NoOne,
Hatchlings are starting to appear for sale regurlarly at the moment, so I hope to find some in Brisbane that I can view. I have to agree on the Western form being nice, I have been surfing for pics and Im amazed at the variations overall on the snake. The Americans have some awesome Western form bhps. Alas if westerns are so hard to find, I shall try and choose something local that I personally like. Niels are awesome, I checked his web page (so are his stimsons!).
As stated, it would be hard to find an ugly bhp! lol
Cheers
