Following is a link to an article in today's Gold Coast Bulletin about an Eastern Brown caught at Main Beach Southport and later released in the Gold Coast Hinterland.
After reading many other posts about releasing snakes, my concern with this release is the distance between where it was found and then released. Main Beach to the Hinterland is a fair distance.
Must say however, the photo of the snake is very good. http://www.goldcoast.com.au/article/...t-feature.html |

Loved his last line
I wonder who pays him for jobs like that on the beach? Do the council pay, or would he do these for free? Any snake catchers out there that relocate from public areas get paid???

I believe Tony has a contract with Gold Coast City Council to remove snakes from the northern beaches (the spit and down through surfers mostly). You would probably be amazed at the amount of browns he takes off the beaches.
I would of thought the hinterland is a bit far for a release but maybe there is something with EPA and GCCC that they are trying to prevent the snakes coming into contact with people. I could imagine how the gold coast tourism market could be crippled if all of a sudden all the bus loads of tourists keep seeing, or being bitten by, snakes on the beaches.

there are quite a few people including myself who catch snakes on the gold coast, In reality there is just not enough snakes seen by the public for all of us to catch.
i have a job any way but when i cant do the calls i give them tony's number, as he needs it more then i do. i hope he gets a big promotion or something to do with reptiles and he probably will. nice brown too.

I have an application in at the moment to relocate snakes, but as elapid@ said it is more for the fun than money. And since i know Tony does it as his living he will always get priority in my eyes, unless it is in my immediate area.
Tony has become some what of a celebrity lately, he got a 3 or 4 page spread in the Gold Coast Bulletin not long ago, maybe he will become "Hollywood Harrison".

Yes, unfortunately nearly all snakes released beyond the snakes normal range will die. Sad isnt it.
Thing is Ozzie by taking one snake away, your just allowing one snake to come in/survive. So whilst it might make a very small dent on the snake population on the beaches/dunes it wont have a lasting effect. Unless you mean removing the snake from the beach...but then they could just be put in the dunes/river banks/waterways/gardens etc in the area.
