Well it's around 3:15 AM and I was bored so I just checked my incubator. Right on time, they've started to cut through the shells.
The eggs from this particular female always hatch on the Australia Day weekend without fail, 62-65 days from laying. They must have little alarm clocks in there somewhere

PB, the short answer to your question would be - cafefully.
Just checked again about 10 minutes ago and the first egg is still the same, just a couple of slits but a second egg has got a head poking out. That's him/her below. The other shot is Dad.
For those of you wondering why the Vermiculite is so shallow, I've actually removed the egg from the incubation container (where the eggs are 3/4 buried) and placed it in a container by itself with just enough Vermiculite just to hold the egg upright.

Baz,
She layed 12 eggs and 6 died within a week or so. So I'm only looking at 6 viable eggs.
It's the smallest clutch she's ever layed. My fault, she wasn't in prime condition and I wasn't going to breed her but it looks like he done the job before I could remove her (the pair normally live together). Update
The first egg to split has showed no signs of emerging. If nothing by tomorrow morning I might have to cut a hole to see what's going on.
The second egg still looks like the photo above,
and I just got back from a snake relocation job and a third egg has not only split but the litte critter inside couldn't wait to get out. I was only gone about 90 minutes. It's 3/4's out but I've noticed that the umbilical is still attached. Well it wouldn't be the first time I've had to cut the umbilical.
Of the 3 remaining eggs, no movement yet, 2 still look good but the third looks 50/50.

Depends on who's selling them, but at the moment you'd be looking in the area of $150 to $180. I could get greedy and ask $200 and I'd probably get it at the moment (but I won't), quite a demand and not a lot of animals around. All of mine are basically pre sold.

Well I just cut open the egg that was first to split. Poor little fella must have used all his energy to cut the egg, cause I just opened it and found him dead. Update
Well as I just said the critter in the first egg has died.
The second egg still looks like the above photo. Every time I go near it, it ducks its head back inside which is a normal behavior so I'll just leave it. It should be fine.
The third actually broke free of the umbilical by itself and all is good.
Of the remaining eggs, one has started to split the egg. Might cut a small hole in the egg. Over the years I've lost a few snakes after they split the egg and I'm well and truly over it so I might have to start cutting small holes in the egg once the snakes start splitting the eggs.
With the two remaining eggs, one still looks fine but I'm starting to have doubts about it.

Bugger elapid I hate it when that happens
I've had a shocker too, 18 hatchies out of 48 eggs so far.
