Im picking up my little fella for $50. It's not the price of the snakes that's the problem it's finding them. It's the first copperhead I've seen for sale and in turn will be my first copperhead. If anyone in Vic knows of someone who is selling a copperhead please let me know. I m hoping to get a pair that breed. Also, question. Is it true copperheads aren't imune (however it is spelt) to their own venom and will die if bit by another copperhead or itself???

G'day guys,
The reason not many Copperheads are available is the difficulties associated with keeping them. There is a high mortality rate amongst the neonates (80% is not uncommon), they are incredibly heat sensitive and generally do not thrive in captivity.
I would recommend anyone interested in keeping Copperheads to first practice on Tiger Snakes. They are hardier than Copperheads, more commonly available, yet still pose some of the challenges that Copperheads do.
Cheers
Jonno
