I could be wrong but cant you get most elapids on a normal licence? and you just need the expensive one for the 'dangerous' ones?
could be wrong

yeah, i just upgraded my licence to restricted.
but no way would i get any now! i have no experince with elapids!
i just thought it would'nt be that easy to keep em, i thought you would have to prove to QPWS that you had experince and knowledge on elapids to keep them?

Move to Victoria! You can put yourself in harms way simply by paying the extra cash for an advanced license Plus, we can keep crocs hehe

Atleast you can keep them if you want. No vens keeping at all in canberra. Can't do ven handling courses in Canberra. Only a few park rangers are picked to do snake callouts and they are sent to a lady in NSW to do the handling course.

I'm also interested in elapids, just like whiteyluvsrum, I also like my rum. but thats besides the point.
Does anyone know if anyone in FNQ runs courses on elapid handling?
Or if anyone in the area wouldn't mind helpin a fellow herper out
