Yeah chuck it in. Why don't you catch some wild rats and feed them live while you are at it. That's also what wild snakes do.

Personally I sterilize to an extent. Although the chance of catching anything is super slim why risk it? A few mintues is all it takes to eliminate ANY chance.

Fresh branches are absolutely fine to use as is....If you want you can brush off any loose material off them and they are good to go.

just give them a good wash down with some water and a wipe of f10 or whatever cleaner u use,its only wood.

Hahahahaha, wild snakes aren't immune to mites for one. And I highly doubt anyone here is effectively sterilising their branches anyway, but if it lets you sleep at night then go for it, its a waste of time, just put the branch straight it.
