Yeah chuck it in. Why don't you catch some wild rats and feed them live while you are at it. That's also what wild snakes do.

Personally I sterilize to an extent. Although the chance of catching anything is super slim why risk it? A few mintues is all it takes to eliminate ANY chance.

For them people that don't sterilize or bake branche's, don't come back asking us what to do with mite's/parasites.

Fresh branches are absolutely fine to use as is....If you want you can brush off any loose material off them and they are good to go.

just give them a good wash down with some water and a wipe of f10 or whatever cleaner u use,its only wood.

seriously just give them a good hosing and clean them up a bit , let them dry and throw them in ..
or if you want you can bake them in the oven for a bit ...your call .

Hahahahaha, wild snakes aren't immune to mites for one. And I highly doubt anyone here is effectively sterilising their branches anyway, but if it lets you sleep at night then go for it, its a waste of time, just put the branch straight it.
