Enclosure for 3yr old diamond

Hi

Its my first post and I need advice on an enclosure for a 3yr old diamond I just bought. He's about 5 foot and I got him with his enclosure which is a class reptile tank. I want to give him more room to climb and stretch out, and am considering converting a pine wardrobe. Its 1200cm wide by 1800cm high by 60cm deep. Is pine ok to use and would this be enough room for him or should I find something wider? I was told he wont grow much longer and they usually dont get any longer after 4yrs old. Is this true?

Cheers.

Males are the smaller of the species and are usually around 1.8m long as adults. Yours wont grow too much more unless you're pumping it with large meals(which i dont advise). Even then it wont grow too much bigger.

The dimensions of the wardrobe are good. Pine is fine but i would seal it a week before the snake goes in.

Thanks

I was told he's eating one 100g rat per week, but was told to start him on 200g rats. Does this sound right? The 100g rats dont seem big enough for him.
Im not sure what you mean by sealing before he goes in. I was going to sand the wardrobe then paint with a clear stain of some sort.
Cheers

stain wont seal the timber, unless it's a 2 in 1 lacquer/stain. You'll need to paint it with a gloss paint or lacquer. Snake crap will affect the timber if it's not sealed.

Serpents right, i use polyurethane estapol, you have to let it fully cure so there is no smell before you can put him in.

I'm not sure how true this is but I go by it. I did some resurch on diamonds a while back. I read a article from a guy that has been breeding diamonds for more than 20yrs and he said that the biggest problem people encounter with them is overfeeding. Diamonds apparantly don't eat very often he recomended once a month and smaller size meals. Some of his diamonds he only feed 6 x in a year period and said they had less health issues. Your enclosure sounds like a very good size more than enough room for him/her, and yes definetly make sure it has some sort of protection otherwise after a while the timber will soak up everything that goes in and will eventually smell and rot.

I feed all my diamond 5% - 10% of their body weight approx.
@ 5%, 1kg snake = 50g rat.
@ 10%, 1 kg snake = 100g rat.
Every 14 - 18 Days.
Before cooling the females get extra if they need a bit more conditioning, the males dont
get any extra - keep them lean, keeps them keen !!!

That sounds odd to me that the guy told you to he is feeding 100gm and then tell you to feed 200gm , why is he not feeding it 200gm ??
Any way make sure you put a clear laquer of some sort over pine , use stain before hand or get a 2 in 1 stain laquer , other wise pine will soak up all the smell and any liquids and will eventually start to rot and smell .

Thanks all for the feedback

I'll get him onto 200g rats every 14-18 days and see how he goes. I just wasnt sure all was right when told he was 3yrs old and wont grow anymore. He's right on 1.5m.

After re-measuring the wardrobe it's 1.2m wide by 1.8m tall by 40cm deep.

Is 40cm deep enough?

Cheers
